Este trabalho busca identificar os impactos e as influências da participação de fundos de Private Equity e Venture Capital (PE/VC) no desempenho de empresas que possuÃram o aporte anteriormente à abertura de capital (IPO). De uma forma mais objetiva, o presente estudo pretende investigar se as empresas que abriram capital, financiadas por PE/VC, apresentam desempenho melhor do que as empresas que estrearam no mercado acionário brasileiro não sendo financiadas por estes veÃculos de investimento. A amostra deste trabalho é composta por 116 empresas que efetuaram oferta pública inicial (IPO) na Bolsa de Valores de São Paulo (BM&FBOVESPA), no perÃodo de janeiro de 2004 a dezembro de 2009. Primeiramente, identificou-e a presença de 41 empresas que estrearam na BM&FBOVESPA financiadas por fundos de PE/VC. Ademais, os resultados indicam que a influência dos fundos de PE/VC tende a melhorar alguns Ãndices de rentabilidade e mercado das empresas após o IPO. Em sÃntese, as evidências encontradas levam à conclusão de que as organizações de Private Equity e Venture Capital influenciam de forma positiva o desempenho das empresas investidas.

This work seeks to identify the impact of the participation of Private Equity funds and Venture Capital (PE/VC), the performance of companies that owned the contribution prior to the opening of capital (IPO). In a more objective the present study seeks to investigate whether companies that opened capital, financed by PE/VC, have performed better than the other formerly the Brazilian stock market debut. The sample of work consists of 116 companies that made the initial public offering (IPO) in the São Paulo Stock Exchange (BOVESPA) in the period January 2004 to December 2009. First identified that 41 enterprises debuted at BOVESPA being financed by PE/VC funds. Furthermore, the results indicate that the influence of PE/VC funds tend to improve some indices of profitability and market of companies after the IPO. In summary, the evidence found lead to the conclusion that the organizations of private equity and venture capital influence positively the performance of investee companies.
