O presente estudo objetivou investigar a importância da leitura nas Séries Iniciais do Ensino Fundamental, ressaltando a relevância dessa temática como condição essencial para a formação de leitores proficientes. A partir de um breve relato sobre a gênese da Leitura e sua evolução, elaborou-se uma análise minuciosa sobre sua origem desde a Antiguidade até a ampliação de seu conceito no mundo contemporâneo. Dentro deste contexto, destacam-se também a relevância da leitura no contexto escolar, o trabalho com a leitura nas Séries Iniciais do Ensino Fundamental, o papel da escola na formação de leitores críticos e a formação do aluno leitor.
The present study aimed to investigate the importance of reading in the Early Years of Elementary School, highlighting the relevance of this subject as an essential condition for the training of proficient readers. From a brief account of the genesis of Reading and its evolution, a detailed analysis was elaborated on its origin from Antiquity to the extension of its concept in the contemporary world. Within this context, the relevance of reading in the school context, work with reading in the elementary school years, the role of the school in the formation of critical readers and the formation of the reading student are also highlighted.
