Conhecer a importância da inclusão do tema Meio Ambiente nos currículos escolares para os professores do Ensino Fundamental de 5ª a 8ª série de uma escola municipal de Itapetinga-BA foi o problema central deste trabalho. Para isso, buscou-se verificar a importância de se trabalhar a Educação Ambiental no cotidiano escolar, a formação e qualificação dos docentes, conhecer a compreensão dos educadores quanto a temática e averiguar de que maneira os profissionais utilizam o Parâmetro Curricular Nacional de Meio Ambiente. Os instrumentos utilizados para coleta de dados foram questionários (objetivos e subjetivos) e consulta da proposta pedagógica da instituição. Os resultados obtidos demonstraram que os docentes reconhecem a importância de trabalhar a Educação Ambiental na prática educativa. Entretanto, a dificuldade de desenvolver um trabalho pautado nos princípios de transversalidade e interdisciplinaridade se faz presente devido a falta de preparação dos profissionais para desenvolver esta temática.
To know the importance of the inclusion of the theme environment in the school curriculum for the teachers of the Fundamental Teaching from 5th to 8th grades of a district school of Itapetinga-BA was the central problem of this work. For that, it was looked for to verify the importance of working the Environmental Education in the daily school, the formation and the teachers' qualification, to know the educators' understanding as the theme and to discover that it sorts out the professionals use the Parameter National Curricular of environment. The instruments used for collection of data were questionnaires (objectives and subjective) and consultation of the pedagogic proposal of the institution. The obtained results demonstrated that the teachers recognize the importance of working the Environmental Education in educational practice. However, the difficulty of developing a ruled work in the transversility beginnings and intedisciplined has been present due to lack of the professionals' preparation to develop this theme.
