O artigo investiga a relevância temática da pandemia de Covid-19 em editoriais de um dos principais jornais brasileiros, a Folha de S. Paulo, analisando de que modo o periódico explorou o tema, notabilizado pelo interesse público, em sua agenda de interesses corporativos, visto que o formato editorial permite flexibilidade de pauta (SANTOS; MARQUES; FONTES, 2020). Mas mesmo estando vinculado aos interesses da empresa jornalística, o editorial não pode ignorar os acontecimentos mais importantes do dia, relevantes para o debate público (MONT’ALVERNE; MARQUES, 2016). Por meio da Análise de Conteúdo, são analisados 147 editoriais publicados de 27 de fevereiro a 10 de maio de 2020 (quando foram confirmadas as 10 mil primeiras mortes por Covid-19 no Brasil). Procedeu-se a uma categorização temática em 87 destes editoriais, caracterizados pelo destaque dado ao assunto logo no título e subtítulo. Conclui-se que embora tenha explorado o assunto sob diferentes vieses, a abordagem política da pandemia acabou se impondo, com a crise sanitária sendo utilizada como pano de fundo para críticas ao governo Bolsonaro e para discussões que vão muito além da agenda de saúde.
The article investigates the thematic relevance of the Covid-19 pandemic in editorials of one of the main Brazilian newspapers, Folha de S. Paulo, analyzing how the periodical explored the theme, highlighted by the public interest, in its corporate interests agenda, since the editorial format allows for flexibility in the agenda (SANTOS; MARQUES; FONTES, 2020). But even being linked to the interests of the journalistic company, the editorial cannot ignore the most important events of the day, relevant to the public debate (MONT’ALVERNE; MARQUES, 2016). Through Content Analysis, 147 editorials published from February 27 to May 10, 2020 are analyzed (when the first 10,000 deaths by Covid-19 in Brazil were confirmed). A thematic categorization was carried out in 87 of these editorials, characterized by the emphasis given to the subject in the title and subtitle. It is concluded that, although the subject has been explored under different biases, the political approach to the pandemic ended up imposing itself, with the health crisis being used as a backdrop for criticism of the Bolsonaro government and for discussions that go far beyond the health agenda.
