Este artigo busca investigar como era a presença das mulheres na prática de esportes e no jornalismo em O Diário Esportivo, o primeiro semanário esportivo de Belo Horizonte, em 1945, e que compõe o acervo da Coleção Linhares, pertencente à Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais. A pesquisa se baseia no entendimento de que o jornalismo é historicamente situado, em que o contexto se torna fundamental enquanto operador metodológico. Para tanto, a análise verbovisual da publicação parte da primeira edição, visto que os editoriais e a edição inicial são objetos fecundos para se compreender como era o fazer jornalístico e as representações dadas pelo jornal na sociedade. A presença das mulheres na prática de esportes é evidenciada no impresso em matérias sobre resultados de competições de natação, de voleibol e da equipe feminina do América Futebol Clube, e revela cobranças dirigidas às atletas de vôlei, por parte do veículo, por mais vigor físico. Não foi possível identificar a atuação de mulheres na produção do semanário. Ressalta-se a necessidade de pesquisas que se dediquem à historicidade das presenças das mulheres no jornalismo relacionado aos esportes em Belo Horizonte.
This paper aims to research the presence of women in sports and journalism in O Diário Esportivo, Belo Horizonte's first weekly sports publication in 1945, and which is part of the Linhares Collection maintained by Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). The study is based on an understanding of journalism as historically situated, in which the context becomes fundamental as a methodological tool. Therefore, the verbal-visual analysis of the publication starts with the first edition, since the editorials and the initial edition are fertile objects for understanding the journalism making and the representations that the newspapers gave to society. The presence of women in sports is evidenced in the newspaper through the results of swimming competitions, volleyball, and the women's team of América Futebol Clube. The newspaper also highlights issues such as the demand for greater physical
rigor from volleyball players. However, the participation of women in the production of the weekly newspaper could not be verified. Further research is necessary to investigate the representation of women in journalism, especially sports journalism, in Belo Horizonte.
