JUSTICIA SOCIAL Y SUSTENTABILIDAD: DEL CONTRATO SOCIAL A LA FRATERNIDAD

Sustainability, understood as intergenerational social justice, poses a series of theoretical and practical difficulties. Among the former ones, is the problem of thinking about the future as a source of rights and obligations, as well as neoliberal criticism of the concept of social justice. Among the latter ones, is the development of an individualistic and selfish subjectivity that puts the idea of the social contract in crisis. However, this idea is also questioned, from another perspective, by what has been left "outside" the contract: the rest of nature, the domestic space and the non-citizens. Ecological thinking, feminism and recognition question the foundation of the social contract. Their demands can be met by rescuing the concept of fraternity, understood both in its conflictive dimension and in what it implies in the search for harmony.

La sustentabilidad entendida como justicia social intergeneracional plantea una serie de dificultades teóricas y prácticas. Entre las primeras, se encuentra el problema de pensar al futuro como fuente de derechos y obligaciones, así como las críticas neoliberales al concepto de justicia social. Entre las segundas, el desarrollo de una subjetividad individualista y egoísta que pone en crisis la idea de contrato social. Pero esta idea también es cuestionada, desde otra perspectiva, por lo que quedó “afuera” del contrato: el resto de la naturaleza, el espacio doméstico y los no-ciudadanos. Pensamiento ecológico, feminismo y reconocimiento cuestionan el fundamento del contrato social. Sus demandas pueden ser atendidas rescatando el concepto de fraternidad, entendido tanto en su dimensión conflictiva como en lo que implica de búsqueda de armonía.
