La Filosofía detrás de la obra de Fra Angélico

Fra Angelico is one of the great painters of the Italian Quattrocento, whose works continue to gain admirers until today. If we analyze his works in depth, we find that they differ considerably from the style of the vast majority of the artists who were the saint’s contemporaries; we could even venture to say that he was an innovator of his time. Why? What inspired him? What is the thought behind his paintings: that of the medieval homo viator or that of Renaissance Humanism? Who inspired him? Who formed him? This article aims to demonstrate that there is a direct relation between the work of Blessed Angelico and Scholasticism; concretely, with the thought of one of its greatest exponents, Saint Thomas Aquinas.

Fra Angélico es uno de los grandes pintores del Quattrocento Italiano, cuyos trabajos siguen cobrando admiradores hasta los días de hoy. Si analizamos a fondo sus obras nos encontraremos que son muy diferentes al estilo de la gran mayoría de los artistas coetáneos del santo, inclusive nos atrevemos a decir que fue un innovador de su época. ¿Por qué? ¿Qué lo inspiraba? ¿Qué pensamiento está detrás de sus pinturas: el del homo viator Medieval o el del Humanismo Renacentista? Este Artículo quiere demostrar que existe una relación directa entre la obra del Beato Pintor y la Escolástica, concretamente, con el pensamiento de uno de los máximos exponentes de la misma, esto es, Santo Tomás de Aquino.
