The protagonist presented here, Leolinda Daltro, has a unique trajectory. For
the historian, who is faced with the corpus of documents by it encoded and published
notes its complexity and, by extension, the commitment to her 'Memoirs'. A memory at
once individual and collective, considering the tangle of characters and institutions that
involved her role of 'missionary'. Without attempting to predict the true / false to revisit
the document we have chosen to discuss the pioneering of a secular program of
education for native peoples in northern Goias, Tocantins State today, project which received wide participation in regional and national society in turn of the nineteenth
century to the twentieth
