Essa investigação busca discutir liberdade a partir da perspectiva teórica de dois economistas, Milton Friedman e Amartya Sen, abordagens que serão feitas a partir das obras Capitalismo e Liberdade de Friedman e Desenvolvimento como Liberdade de Amartya. A primeira seção discute o conceito de liberdade de Friedman, economista norte-americano que utiliza como pano de fundo para análise o liberalismo econômico. A segunda seção aborda o conceito de liberdade a partir da análise de Amartya, economista indiano que é referência na discussão de desenvolvimento e liberdade, principalmente pela construção dos conceitos de capacidade e liberdade substantiva. As considerações finais fazem uma discussão confrontando ambos os teóricos através do método comparativo, concluindo que existem limitações relevantes na análise de liberdade de Friedman, de modo que o mesmo deixa de analisar as capacidades dos indivÃduos, e consequentemente a liberdade substantiva.
This research aims to discuss freedom from the theoretical perspective of two economists, Milton Friedman and Amartya Sen, approaches that will be made from the works of Friedman's Capitalism and Freedom and Development as Freedom by Amartya. The first section discusses the concept of freedom of Friedman, U.S. economist uses as a backdrop for analyzing the economic liberalism, with the theoretical principles of liberalism especially the classic Adam Smith. The second section deals with the thematic concept based on the analysis of Amartya, Indian economist who is a reference in the discussion of development and freedom, especially the construction of the concepts of substantive freedom and capability. The conclusion and final section is a discussion comparing both theorists through the comparative method, concluding that there are major limitations in the analysis of Friedman's freedom, so that it fails to analyze the capabilities of individuals, and consequently the substantive freedom.
