The political engagement of the songs of Chico Buarque jumps to the eye of any listener of his songs; However, it is important to highlight that in his poetic universe is not just a political speech. Chico's poetry makes a critical analysis of society, against the official ideology and disputes the insensitivity to system with the humble, but never puts aside the aesthetics, distancing it from the pure engagement. This work seeks to verify the relationship between Brazilian Popular Music and utopia, using, specifically, the songs of Chico Buarque. This paper seeks to verify the relation between the Brazilian Popular Music (MPB) and utopia, dwelling more specifically on Chico Buarque‟s lyrics.
