Este artigo apresenta reflexões sobre abolicionismo, propaganda, música e participação política no processo da abolição no Brasil. Tudo isso é narrado por meio da trajetória do músico negro Manoel Tranquilino Bastos, nascido de ventre forro na cidade baiana de Cachoeira - BA. A música e, especialmente, a filarmônica Euterpe Ceciliana, fundada por ele, ofereceu caminhos para o maestro apostar na visibilidade de seus projetos, engajar-se na campanha abolicionista e conquistar espaços no debate público de sua cidade.
This article presents reflections about the abolitionism, adversting, music and political participation in the process of abolition in Brazil. All this was narrated through the trajectory of the black musician Manoel Tranquilino, born of born of a belly in the Bahia city of Cachoeira - BA. Music and especially the philharmonic Euterpe Ceciliana, founded by him, offers ways for the maestro to bet on the visibility of his projects, he engages in the abolitionist campaign and conquest of spaces in the public debate of his city.
