As Diretrizes Curriculares Nacionais (DCN) são orientações que necessitam ser adotadas por todas as instituições de ensino superior para formulação dos currículos, superando os limites acadêmicos e ofertando melhores serviços de saúde para sociedade. Historicamente, a Odontologia brasileira é marcada por diversas transformações. As DCN foram implantadas para o curso de Odontologia em 2002, iniciando a busca por uma nova organização pedagógica na qual não houvesse fragmentação de conteúdos, apresentando comouma das principais mudanças no currículo a integração das atividades acadêmicas aos serviços do SUS. Objetivo: Nesse contexto, o presente estudo, que apresenta uma abordagem exploratória comparativa e qualitativa, objetiva analisar criticamente as matrizes curriculares dos cursos de Odontologia de duas Instituições de Ensino Superior (IES), adotando como referência as DCN. Materiais e métodos: A metodologia utilizada consistiu em uma análise documental comparativa entre as matrizes curriculares dos cursos de Odontologia de duas Instituições de Ensino Superior do município de Feira de Santana-Bahia, sendo uma Estadual e uma particular, tomando como referencial uma adaptação do modelo proposto por Pessoa e Noro. Resultados: As matrizes curriculares da UEFS e da UNEF apresentam características distintas no que tange ao conteúdo curricular, organização e distribuição da carga horária, porém, as matrizes de ambas instituições cumprem com as determinações das DCN, respeitando a distribuição das disciplinas em eixos e a carga horária total. Conclusões: A implementação das DCN permitiu obter uma maior padronização entre os cursos de Odontologia das diferentes IES do Brasil, garantindo o egresso de cirurgiões-dentistas com formação de qualidade.

The National Curriculum Guidelines (DCN) are guidelines that need to be adopted by all higher education institutions for the formulation of curricula, overcoming academic limits and offering better health services to society. Historically, Brazilian Dentistry has been marked by several transformations. The DCN were implemented for the Dentistry course in 2002, starting the search for a new pedagogical organization where there was no fragmentation of content, presenting as one of the main changes in the curriculum the integration of academic activities with SUS services. Objective:In this context, the present study, which presents a comparative and qualitative exploratory approach, aims to critically analyze the curricular matrices of the Dentistry courses of two Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), using DCN as a reference. Materials and methods:The methodology used consisted of a comparative documentary analysis between the curricular matrices of the Dentistry courses of two Higher Education Institutions in the municipality of Feira de Santana-Bahia, one State and one private, taking as an reference the adaptation of the model proposed by Pessoa and Noro. Results: The curricular matrices of UEFS and UNEF have different characteristics regarding the curricular content, organization and distribution of the workload, however, the matrices of both institutions comply with the determinations of the DCN, respecting the distribution of subjects in axes and the workload total. Conclusions: The implementation of the DCN made it possible to obtain greater standardization between the Dentistry courses of the different HEIs in Brazil, guaranteeing the graduation of dentists with quality training.
