Este artigo visa analisar o papel dos movimentos sociais de moradores na ocupação dos lotes de terras da Universidade Federal do Amazonas - UFAM em Manaus, assim como a resposta das administrações da universidade diante dessa situação. Além disso, o estudo considera o processo de migração e assentamento de populações provenientes tanto do interior do Amazonas quanto de outros estados brasileiros nas terras da universidade. A pesquisa foi desenvolvida a partir de fontes escritas e orais. As fontes escritas incluem textos de pesquisadores que abordaram a história de Manaus no século XX, cobrindo acontecimentos que vão desde o auge do ciclo da borracha até a criação da Zona Franca. Já as fontes orais consistem em relatos de antigos moradores do bairro, que participaram da ocupação dessas terras, e a entrevista de um Guarda Patrimonial da UFAM, que esteve envolvido no processo de contenção das ocupações.
This Project aims to analyze the role of social movements of residents in the occupation of the landplots of UFAM in Manaus, as well as the university administrations’ response to this situation. Additionally, the study considers the migration and settlement process of populations coming from both the interior of Amazonas and other Brazilian states on university land. The research was developed based on written and oral sources. The written sources include texts by researchers who have explored the history of Manaus in the 20th century, covering events ranging from the peak of the rubber cycle to the creation of the Free Trade Zone. The oral sources consist of accounts from former residents of the neighborhood who participated in the occupation of these lands and an interview with a UFAM Heritage Guard who was involved in the process of containing the occupations.
