Neste artigo indico como os índios foram representados em A Muralha, na versão televisiva de Maria Adelaide Amaral e no romance original de Dinah Silveira de Queiroz, para então fazer uma comparação com interpretações e estudos recentes sobre o tema, feitos por cientistas sociais. As culturas indígenas não foram abordadas na minissérie, os bandeirantes sobressaíram como os desbravadores do sertão, os heróis da narrativa televisiva, que tornaram possível, pela submissão dos indígenas, a vida no Brasil das origens.
In the mini-series “A Muralha”, which focuses the Brazilian nation ́s origins, the indigenous cultures itselves are not approached, and the Bandeirantes (frontiersmen serving the colonial powers) are pictured as “heroes”, because they subjugate native peoples, making life possible in Brazil at that time. The aim of this article is to point at the way Indians are represented both in Dinah Silveira de Queiroz ́s original novel and in Maria Adelaide Amaral mini-series inspired in the novel, so that they can be compared with recent interpretations and studies made by social scientists on this issue.
