Para Luciana Stegagno Picchio, José Guilherme Merquior foi um dos
crÃticos mais congeniais de Murilo Mendes. Não obstante a curiosidade que
desperta a afirmação, a autora italiana não chegou a justificá-la. Afinal, trata-se aÃ
de um poeta e de um crÃtico e pensador. Este artigo objetiva preencher parte
dessa lacuna, caracterizando e aproximando o pensamento de Merquior e a
poesia de Murilo, Ã luz da fortuna crÃtica dedicada ao poeta mineiro e ao pensador
carioca.
According to Luciana Stegagno Picchio, José Guilherme Merquior was
one of the most sympathetic critics to Murilo Mendes. Regardless of her startling
statement, the Italian author did not justify it. All things considered, one of the both
were a poet and the other were a critic and thinker. This paper aims to fill part of
this void, characterizing and comparing Merquior’s thinking with Murilo Mendes’
poetry, in light of their critical fortune.
