O Juizado de Órfãos foi uma importante instituição que zelou pelos direitos e
deveres para com os menores que, por causa da desestruturação familiar, necessitavam de um
adulto legalmente constituÃdo para ser seu responsável, contribuindo, assim, para a
formulação de novos arranjos familiares. Esse texto, à luz da História Social, analisa a prática
utilizada pelos juÃzes de órfãos de Porto Alegre, quando havia a necessidade de se tutelar um
menor.
The Judge of the Orphans was an important institution that cared for the rights and
duties to minors who, because of family breakdown, they needed an adult to be legally
appointed guardian, thus contributing to the formulation of new family arrangements. This
text, in light of Social History, examines the practice used by the judges of orphans in Porto
Alegre city, when there was a need to protect a minor.
