O Cerrado ocupa a porção central do Brasil, e possui uma grande disponibilidade de águas subterrâneas, sendo considerado o “berço das águas” onde concentra um terço da biodiversidade brasileira, mas nos últimos anos, vem passando um acelerado processo de degradação devido ao crescimento das cidades nele localizadas, principalmente pela expansão da agricultura e da pecuária. A ocupação acelerada do bioma Cerrado e a expansão agrícola baseada num modelo de exploração vêm transformando as paisagens e os modos de vida das populações tradicionais, causando impactos ambientais e sociais nesse bioma. No primeiro momento foi realizada uma revisão bibliográfica sobre o uso e ocupação do Cerrado e posteriormente, sobre Sistemas Agroflorestais, por conseguinte foi feita uma análise das características sociais, ambientais e econômicas da área de estudo, bem como a viabilidade de implantação de SAF em áreas do Cerrado. Este trabalho traz como proposta os Sistemas Agroflorestais ou SAF que são formas de uso da terra nos quais árvores ou arbustos são utilizados em associação com cultivos agrícolas e/ou com animais em uma mesma área, destacando-se como uma importante ferramenta para a restauração de ecossistemas degradados.

The Cerrado occupies the central portion of Brazil, has a great availability of groundwater being regarded as the “cradle of the waters”, concentrates a third of the Brazilian biodiversity, and in recent years has been undergoing an accelerated process of degradation due to the growth of cities located therein, but, mainly, by the expansion of the agriculture and livestock farming. The accelerated and disordered occupation of the Cerrado biome and the agricultural expansion based on a model of exploration fundamentally extractivist has transformed the landscapes and the ways of life of the traditional populations, causing environmental and social impacts in this Biome. At the first moment it will be performed a bibliographical review on the use and occupation of the Cerrado and later on Agroforestry Systems after it will be made an analysis of the social, environmental and economic characteristics of the area of study as well as the feasibility of introduction of SAFs in Cerrado areas. This work brings as a proposal the Agroforestry Systems or SAFs that are ways of the land use in which trees or shrubs are used in association with crops and/or with animals in the same area highlighting as an important tool for the restoration of degraded ecosystems.
