O objetivo deste trabalho é analisar a ocupação da Região Centro-Oeste no
contexto das transformações que ocorreram na dinâmica espacial da economia brasileira
no perÃodo de 1930 a 2010. Os dados mostram que a economia do Centro-Oeste passou
de uma condição de subsistência no inÃcio do século XX para se tornar uma grande
produtora agropecuária no inÃcio do século XXI. Atualmente o espaço regional é
caracterizado por algumas “ilhas de produtividadeâ€, não necessariamente subordinada Ã
economia de São Paulo, sendo o setor industrial constituÃdo basicamente pela indústria
agroalimentar.
This paper analyze the occupation of the Brazilian Midwest Region in the context of
transformations in spatial dynamics of the Brazilian economy. The data show that the
economy of the Brazilian Midwest Region became a condition of support in the early
twentieth century to become a major agricultural producer in the early twenty-first century.
Currently the regional area is characterized by some "islands of productivity", not
necessarily subordinate to the economy of Sao Paulo State in the industrial sector is made
up primarily by the food industry.
