Os manuscritos sobre a escravidão no Brasil do escritor Lima Barreto revelam profundas relações com o contexto histórico da época, assim como evidenciam distintas formas da valorização de possÃveis desdobramentos na fartura literária do autor. O presente artigo aborda a pesquisa empreendida em julho/2011 no arquivo do escritor Lima Barreto na Biblioteca Nacional. Aborda reflexões sobre a importância da obra barretiana ainda inédita que resta na seção de manuscritos da Biblioteca Nacional. Utiliza-se o método da interpretação e reflexão. O cunho cientÃfico deste breve artigo está diretamente associado a levantar novas contribuições para a importância da revelação desses manuscritos para a comunidade acadêmica e para o acervo cultural de Lima Barreto.

Lima Barreto’s manuscripts about the slavery in Brazil reveal some important aspects of the historic context of the time. They also contribute to show some distinct ways that may lead to the valorization of other literary works by the author. This article aims at presenting some manuscripts taken from Lima Barreto’s file at the National Library (Biblioteca Nacional) in July/2011. It also raises some reflections on the importance of Barreto’s work, found in the files at the National Library and that is still unpublished. In order to develop the issue of this article, I use the method of interpretation and reflection. The theoretical background present in the article aims at contributing to reveal the importance of these manuscripts for the academic field. It also contributes to enrich Lima Barreto’s cultural collection.
