O presente artigo relembra os 30 anos da assinatura da Convenção das Nações Unidas sobre o Direito do Mar(CNUDM), suas principais contribuições para a formação do direito internacional do mar e suas implicações para o Brasil. O artigo ainda apresenta o difÃcil trabalho de negociação do tratado na III Conferência das Nações Unidas sobre o Direito do Mar (1973-1982), o árduo processo até a ratificação e entrada em vigor da CNUDM, os novos espaços marÃtimos definidos pelo tratado e finaliza revendo a atuação da delegação brasileira no encontro e a consequência mais importante para o Brasil atualmente, o pleito a uma plataforma continental estendida.
Resumo Inglês:
The present article recalls the 30 years passed by the signature of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (LOS Convention), its major achievements for the international law of the sea and its implications forBrazil. The paper also presents the hard work treaty negotiations during the III United Nations Conference on the Law of the Sea (1973-1982), the tough LOS Convention ratification and entry in force process, the new maritime spaces defined by the treaty and ends reviewing the participation of the Brazilian delegation in the summit and the most important issue for Brazil nowadays, the submission toan extended continental shelf.
