A depressão infantil vem sendo mais frequentemente observada em nossa sociedade contemporânea. Identificou-se na literatura, que o diagnóstico e sintomatologia algumas vezes são semelhantes aos casos de depressão típicos, porém a mesma apresenta particularidades associadas ao ambiente escolar. Tal estudo trata-se de pesquisa de campo quantitativa realizada com a intenção de verificar o quanto os professores de primeiro ao quinto ano de uma escola municipal no norte de Minas Gerais conhecem sobre a depressão infantil. Utilizou-se questionário estruturado com alternativas entre duas ou mais opções e uma questão aberta sobre as vivências particulares dos professores sobre a depressão em crianças. Através dos resultados e discussão identificou-se que as professoras que participaram desde estudo apresentam um conhecimento razoável em relação à depressão infantil, porém deve-se observar que a amostra alcançou 43% das professoras que lecionam naquela escola, tratando-se da minoria das professoras com conhecimento suficiente para identificar e ajudar os alunos. Com base nesta premissa, sugere-se que se promovam seminários e palestras com profissionais habilitados, com a intenção de instruir todos os professores quanto a identificação a doença com a intenção de prevenir consequências como o agravamento da mesma.

Childhood depression has been observed more frequently in our contemporary society. It was identified in the literature, the diagnosis and symptoms are sometimes similar to typical cases of depression, however it has some special features associated with the school environment. This study deals with the quantitative field research with the intent to see how much the teachers first to the fifth year of a municipal school in northern Minas Gerais know about childhood depression. We used structured with alternate between two or more options and an open question about the particular experiences of teachers about depression in children questionnaire. From the results and discussion it was identified that the teachers who participated in the study since present a reasonable knowledge of child depression, however it should be noted that the sample reached 43% of the teachers who teach at the school, when dealing with the minority of teachers enough to identify and help students knowledge. Based on this premise, it is suggested that promoting seminars, lectures and qualified professionals, with the intention to instruct all teachers on identifying the disease with the intention of preventing the worsening consequences as the same.
