Mobilizando conceitos retirados aos estudos culturais, à teoria do espectador cinematográfico, à axiologia da crÃtica e à sociologia da cultura, realizamos, neste trabalho, uma análise do elitismo do discurso crÃtico da “cosmética da fome†– especialmente em sua polêmica investida sobre o filme Cidade de Deus, de Fernando Meirelles e Kátia Lund (2002) –, bem como de suas relações teóricas com o campo acadêmico dos estudos de cinema no Brasil.
Drawing from concepts taken from cultural studies, the cinematic spectatorship theory, the axiology of criticism and the sociology of culture, we present, in this paper, an analysis of the elitism of the critical discourse of the “cosmetics of hunger†– especially in its attack against the feature film City of God, by Fernando Meirelles and Kátia Lund (Cidade de Deus, 2002) –, and also of its theoretical relations with the academic field of film studies in Brazil.
