This paper analyses the Brazilian broadcasting regulation in the 1935-1945 period, including the Estado Novo coup d'etat preparation, its implementation, consolidation and fall. It is taken into account the historical context and the national and international changes which occured in that period. It also analyses the rules for broadcasting and mass communication media, particularly on control issues. Functions, structure and acting of the Departmento de Imprensa e Propaganda - DIP area studied, in the perspective of understanding the role of the most important intelligence agency of the Vargas government.
