Resumo Português:
O objetivo deste estudo é analisar estatuto da arte e do artista na sociedade mineira setecentista. Contudo, tal análise depende de uma complexa reflexão sobre o reconhecimento da subjetividade na colônia. A ascensão da arte à categoria de arte liberal, a partir do século XV na Europa, sobretudo Itália, é fruto do reconhecimento do sujeito em oposição ao objeto. Na colônia, o fazer artístico é igualado a qualquer outro fazer, considerado enfim atividade manual. Logo, artista e artesão permanecem sujeitos indistintos – o que diferencia o artista do artesão é justamente a atividade intelectual do primeiro.
Resumo Inglês:
The ascension of art to the category of liberal art at the beginning of the fifteenth century in Europe, especially in Italy, is the result of the recognition of the subject in opposition to the object. In the colony, the artistic activity, considered as a manual activity. Thus, artist and artisan remain indistinct subjects – that with distinguished the artist from the artisan is precisely the intellectual activity of the former.
