A entomologia forense é comumente utilizada para associar os insetos e outros artrópodes a casos de crimes violentos. Trata-se de um setor que tem ganhado a atenção dos estudiosos, agentes policiais e grandes centros de investigações da área forense. O objetivo deste trabalho é realizar um levantamento bibliográfico sobre o estudo das moscas na resolução de crimes violentos. Os insetos são usados como provas, ajudando a determinar o local e quando as mortes ocorreram devido aos seus estágios de desenvolvimento. A Entomologia Forense pode ser divida em duas subcategorias: urbana e médico-legal. No começo, a utilização dos insetos para os procedimentos legais era difícil, com o passar dos anos foram-se comprovando que eles contribuíam muito nos processos. Hoje em dia um dos principais centros de investigações do mundo, o Federal Bereau Investigation (F.B.I), conta com entomologistas. Com relação aos exames periciais em casos de morte violenta, cinco questionamentos básicos devem ser respondidos: Quem é o morto? Como a morte ocorreu? Onde ocorreu? Quando ocorreu? e A morte foi natural, acidental ou criminal? A entomologia forense pode solucionar os quatro primeiros quesitos, e ajudar a desvendar o quinto, porém, ela é utilizada mais para o intervalo pós-morte.
Forensic entomology is commonly used to associate insects and other arthropods with cases of violent crimes. This is a field that has gained the attention of scholars, police officers and major forensic investigation centers. The objective of this work is to conduct a bibliographic survey on the study of flies in solving violent crimes. Insects are used as evidence, helping to determine the location and time of deaths due to their stages of development. Forensic entomology can be divided into two subcategories: urban and forensic. In the beginning, the use of insects for legal proceedings was difficult, but over the years it has been proven that they contribute greatly to the processes. Today, one of the main investigation centers in the world, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (F.B.I), has entomologists. Regarding forensic examinations in cases of violent death, five basic questions must be answered: Who is the deceased? How did the death occur? Where did it occur? When did it occur? and Was the death natural, accidental or criminal? Forensic entomology can solve the first four questions and help to uncover the fifth, however, it is used more for the post-mortem interval.
