Este artigo discute o pensamento burguês que se institui e se desenvolve antes do perÃodo clássico do liberalismo, objetivando a análise da produção da escola constituÃda pela burguesia na época moderna. Com base nas idéias do pedagogo Wolfgang Ratke busca-se responder as seguintes questões: como a forma mais avançada da produção da vida material produz novas funções da educação e as relaciona à s necessidades exigidas pela sociedade? O que de realmente novo começa a se instituir para a sociedade e para a educação, no começo dos movimentos sociais burgueses?
This article discusses the bourgeois thought which emerged before the classic period of liberalism with the production of the bourgeois school constituted at the modern time, in the background. Based on Wolfgang Ratke´s writings it searches to answer the following questions: what can be placed as more advanced, in the production of material life, in the use of human labour, in order to relate the functions of the school with the necessities of society? What of really new has been starting for society and education, in the beginning of the bourgeois social movements?
