Em 1808, a crise política
que forçou a vinda da Corte
portuguesa para o Rio de Janeiro,
desencadeou, aqui, importantes
transformações, a começar pela
imediata abertura dos portos às
nações amigas, decisão que favoreceu
o aumento das transações comerciais
e um maior intercâmbio cultural.
Além disso, durante a estada do
monarca lusitano, foram criadas
escolas, museus e bibliotecas;
procedeu-se à urbanização da capital
e, muito importante, teve início a
circulação da imprensa nacional. Em
meio às comemorações do
bicentenário da vinda da Família Real
para o Brasil, este artigo pretende
elucidar algumas, das muitas mudanças
ocorridas no quotidiano da capital do
Império luso-brasileiro, depois de
1808, atentando, especialmente, para
certas dimensões da vida dos
habitantes da capital fluminense.

In 1808, the political crisis
that it forced the arrival of the
Portuguese Cut to Rio de Janeiro, it
unchained, here, important
transformations, to begin for the
immediate opening of the ports to
the nations friends, decision that it
favored the increase of the
commercial transactions and a larger
cultural exchange. Besides, during the
Portuguese monarch’s stay, schools,
museums and libraries were created;
she proceeded to the urbanization of
the capital and, very important, it
had begin to the circulation of the
national press. Amid the
commemorations of the bicentennial
of the arrival of the Royal family to
Brazil, this article intends to elucidate
some of the a lot of changes
happened in the everyday of the
capital of the Luso-Brazilian Empire,
attempting, especially, for certain
dimensions of the inhabitants’ life.
