O presente ensaio é um subproduto do programa governamental “Cátedras IPEA/CAPES para o Desenvolvimentoâ€, implementado na Universidade Federal do Piauà mediante a instituição da Cátedra Octavio Ianni, tendo, portanto, Octavio Ianni (1926-2004) como Patrono. Seu foco incide sobre a fase de estudos norteados para a globalização, a globalidade e/ou o globalismo, no inÃcio da década de 1990. Trata-se de uma das múltiplas análises possÃveis da obra de nosso Patrono dedicadas ao tema do globalismo e sua capacidade de moldar a nova sociedade que se firma e afirma paulatinamente no horizonte histórico da humanidade, que, a exemplo de um pêndulo, tem oscilado do âmbito simbólico da metáfora, da analogia e/ou da utopia, para o âmbito empÃrico da realidade geo-histórica efetiva. Desse modo, apresenta-se a visão sociológica do Octavio Patrono sobre o globalismo, bem como os fundamentos de uma Sociologia do Desenvolvimento em Escala Mundial, desdobrando-a, para fins heurÃsticos, em quatro processos concatenados (social, econômico, polÃtico e cultural) para, então, reconstituÃ-los em seus fluxos intercambiais reais, e, assim, conceber um quadro explicativo/compreensivo sucinto que sinalize para a fortuna do pensamento sociológico de Octavio Ianni face aos desafios tanto histórico quanto epistemológico que simultaneamente moldam e tornam inteligÃvel a emergência da modernidade-mundo.
The essay is a by-product of a research ran under support of the governmental program
"Chairs IPEA/CAPES for the Development", at the Federal University of Piauà with the
institution of the Octavio Ianni’s Chair, having, therefore, Octavio Ianni (1926-2004) as our
Patron. It focuses on the phase of his oriented-studies to the globalization, globality and/or
globalism, at the beginning of the 1990s. This is one of the multiple possible analyses of
Ianni’s sociological thinking dedicated to the theme of globalism and its ability to shape the
new society that emerges on the contemporary historic horizon of humanity, which has swung
as a pendulum from the symbolic ambit of the metaphor, analogy and/or utopia, to the
empirical ambit of the effective geo-historical reality. Thus we introduce the sociological
view of our Patron on globalism, as well as the foundations of a Sociology of the
Development in world scale, unfolding it for heuristic purposes into four combined processes
(social, economic, political and cultural) and then rebuild them into its real interchangeable
flows, and, therefore, conceiving a brief comprehensive table that shows the fortune of
Octavio Ianni’s sociological thought in face of the both historical and epistemological
challenges that simultaneously shape and make intelligible the advent of the world-modernity.
