Nosso trabalho inicia-se
com um apanhado da bibliografia sobre o republicanismo e federalismo
na Primeira República, com principal
atenção à emergência do poder regional e dos coronéis locais. Em seguida
nos detemos no estudo de dois grupos
sediados no Sul de Minas. O primeiro deles era capitaneado por Silviano
Brandão, polÃtico identificado com o
regime imperial, mas que a partir da
Proclamação da República conseguiu
amealhar prestÃgio e organizar uma
base de sustentação coesa que lhe
permitiria usurpar o poder estadual.
Por outro lado, existia o grupo dos
republicanos históricos, liderados por
Francisco Honório Ferreira Brandão,
este agrupamento esteve envolvido
na propaganda republicana regional
desde 1872, mas com a implantação
do novo regime foram excluÃdos e ficaram sem espaço de participação no
novo governo, seguindo a partir deste
marco uma longa trajetória na oposição ao governo estadual.
Our work begins with an
overview of the literature on republicanism and federalism in the First
Republic, with main attention to
the emergence of regional and local
coroners. Then we present the study
of two groups based in the south of
Minas Gerais. The first was headed
by Silviano Brandão, politically identified with the imperial regime, but
from the Proclamation of the Republic managed to amass prestige and organize a cohesive base of support that
would allow him to usurp state power.
On the other hand, there was a group
of historical Republicans, led by Francisco Honório Ferreira Brandão, this
group was involved in Republican
propaganda regional since 1872, but
with the implementation of the new
regime were excluded and were out
of space for participation in the new
government, following the from this
mark a long history of opposition to
the state government
