O Gabinete Português de Leitura da Bahia (GPLBA) é uma instituição histórica, fundada em 1863, instalado em um edifício neomanuelino desde 1918. O GPLBA abriga um acervo significativo que reflete a história luso-brasileira, desempenhando um papel central na preservação da cultura portuguesa no Brasil. Este artigo trata de comprovar a importância da presença material e simbólica de Luís de Camões no GPLBA, da análise da constituição do acervo, dos desafios enfrentados na conservação do le gado camoniano, das comemorações em torno do poeta, em um espaço que funciona também como intercâmbio cultural entre Brasil e Portugal, demonstrando que sua relevância vai além da preservação enquanto patrimônio material.
The Bahia Portuguese Reading Cabinet (GPLBA) is a historic institution, founded in 1863, housed in a neo-Manueline building since 1918. The GPLBA houses a significant collection that reflects Portuguese-Brazilian history, playing a central role in the preservation of Portuguese culture in Brazil. This article aims to prove the importance of the material and symbolic presence of Luís de Camões in the GPLBA, the analysis of the constitution of the collection, the challenges faced in the conservation of Camões’ legacy, the celebrations surrounding the poet, in a space that also functions as cultural exchange between Brazil and Portugal, demonstrating that its relevance goes beyond preservation as material heritage.
