Este trabalho tem por objetivo maior analisar o sistema de escrita utilizado na internet, mediante exame de textos retirados de fóruns do orkut. Para isso, o estudo baseou-se na teoria da gramática funcional (HALLIDAY, 1994; DIK, 1997; GIVON, 1990; explicitados em NEVES, 1997;2000), uma teoria que considera a variedade das funções linguísticas e seus modos de realização, o que exige um suporte teórico metodológico que veja a língua como um instrumento de comunicação. Os textos selecionados foram retirados fóruns do orkut que abordam temas polêmicos. Foram estabelecidos oito critérios para a análise do corpus: alternância de turnos, entonação, gírias, reparações e correções, mal-entendidos, repetição de palavras, marcadores conversacionais e emoticons. A análise desses critérios baseou-se em MARCUSCHI (2006, 2001, 1996), PRETI (2006), HILGERT (2005), URBANO (2003) e BARROS (2006). Com base nesse estudo, a linguagem das comunidades do orkut foi classificada segundo quatro características: as características específicas do orkut; as características do orkut que se aproximam muito da linguagem falada; as características da linguagem falada que se aproximam das do orkut, porém com regras um pouco diferentes; e as características da linguagem falada que foram adaptadas para o orkut.

The aim of this essay is to analyze the written system used on the internet, by examination of texts from orkut forums. For this, the study was based on the theory of functional grammar (HALLIDAY, 1994; DIK, 1997, GIVON, 1990; explained in NEVES, 1997, 2000) a theory that considers the variety of language functions and their modes of realization, that requires a methodological theoretical support which studies the language as a communication tool. The selected texts were removed from orkut forums that discuss controversial issues. We established eight criteria for the analysis of the corpus: turn-taking, intonation, slang, repairs and corrections, misunderstandings, repetition of words, conversational markers and emoticons. The analysis of these criteria was based on MARCUSCHI (2006, 2001, 1996), PRETI (2006) and HILGERT (2005), URBANO (2003) and BARROS (2006). Based on this study, the language of the orkut was classified according to four characteristics: the specific characteristics of orkut, orkut characteristics that are very close to spoken language, the characteristics of spoken language that are close to orkut, but with rules a little different, and the characteristics of spoken language that have been adapted to orkut.
