Os africanos entre representações: viagens reveladoras, olhares imprecisos e a invenção da África no imaginário Ocidental

O presente artigo tem como principal objetivo realizar uma leitura diacrônica e panorâmica de algumas das principais imagens construídas sobre a África e os africanos em determinados contextos espalhados por um longo recorte espaço-temporal, que tem início na Antigüidade Clássica e termina sua viagem nos dias atuais. As incursões pelas representações formuladas sobre o Outro/Africano permitem que vislumbremos ritmos e formas distintas nas arquiteturas mentais elaboradas para a observação e definição do lugar ocupado pela África no Imaginário Ocidental. Não podemos esquecer, no entanto, que qualquer tentativa de sintetizar as imagens e discursos fabricados sobre os africanos não deve ignorar o fato de que os mesmos não foram homogêneos ao longo do tempo, espelhando as diversas faces dos múltiplos contextos em que foram fabricados. Dessa forma, buscamos com esse exercício destacar seus contornos e dinâmicas específicas e as possíveis relações existentes entre os vários momentos abordados.

The present article has as main objective to accomplish a double and panoramic
reading of some of the main images built on Africa and the Africans in certain contexts spread
by a long cutting space-storm, that has beginning in the Classic Antiquity and it finishes its
trip in the current days. The incursions for the representations formulated on Other/African
allow that shimmer rhythms and different forms in the mental architectures elaborated for the
observation and definition from the position occupied by Africa in the Imaginary Western.
We cannot forget, however, that any attempt of synthesizing the images and speeches
manufactured on the Africans should not ignore the fact that the same ones were not
homogeneous along the time, watching the several faces of the multiple contexts in that were
manufactured. In that way, we looked for with that exercise to highlight its contours and
specific dynamics and the possible existent relationships among the several approached
moments.
