Este artigo pretende contribuir para o reconhecimento da história polÃtica dos negros no Estado do
Rio Grande do Sul. No intuito de
desenvolver-se a narrativa histórica,
problematizando-a através da análise de discurso, utilizar-se-á além do
referencial bibliográfico e das fontes
escritas de si, entrevistas orais e anais
da Assembleia Legislativa do Estado.
Destacaremos como protagonistas
neste trabalho o polÃtico negro Carlos
Santos e o marinheiro lÃder da revolta da chibata, João Cândido. Temos
por intenção fazer deste artigo uma
produção que colabore para o conhecimento da agência histórica polÃtica
da identidade negra no pós-abolição.

a historical narrative, questioning it
through discourse analysis, in addition
to bibliographic references and written
sources, oral interviews and proceedings of the Legislative Assembly of the

Protagonists in this
study, the political black sailor Carlos
Santos and leader of the “Revolt of the
Whipâ€, Joao Cândido, are highlighted.
We intend to make this article a collaboration to the knowledge of the historical agency of black identity politics
in post-abolition.
