OS HOMENS OCOS E A CULTURA-MUNDO: DE T. S. ELIOT À HIPERMODERNIDADE

O objetivo deste estudo é ler o poema Os homens ocos (1925), de T. S. Eliot, a partir da prefixação “hiper” proposta por Gilles Lipovetsky e Jean Serroy em A cultura-mundo (2008). Acreditamos que a época descrita pelo poeta carrega características que vêm ao encontro das do tempo que levou os estudiosos a criar a terminologia em questão, fazendo o homem vítima do vazio moral e do hipercapitalismo, hipertecnicização, hiperindividualismo e hiperconsumo. Apoiados nessa intersecção e fundamentados em Russel Kirk, Otto Maria Carpeaux e Leyla-Perrone Moysés, buscamos, por meio da aproximação dos traços das duas épocas, mostrar que há uma essência vazia de sentido que as permeiam e com elas se relacionam.

The aim of this study is to read the poem The Hollow Men (1925), by T.S. Eliot, from the "hyper" prefixation proposed by Gilles Lipovetsky and Jean Serroy in The World-Culture (2008). We believe that the time described by the poet bears characteristics that coincide with those of the time that led the scholars to create the terminology under discussion, making men concomitantly a victim of the moral emptiness and of the hypercapitalism, hypertechnicization, hyperindividualism and hyperconsumption. Based on this intersection and supported by Russel Kirk, Otto Maria Carpeaux and Leyla-Perrone Moysés, we aimed to, through the approximation of the traits of the two epochs, show that, from the human point of view, there is a vacuous essence that permeates and relates to them.
