Este artigo problematiza a relação estabelecida pelos integralistas - em especial seu “Chefe”, Plínio Salgado – com Getúlio Vargas e o Estado Novo, discutindo o apoio dos integralistas ao Golpe de 1937, a proibição de funcionamento da AIB, os levantes armados de 1938 e, especialmente, as reiteradas tentativas de reaproximação com Vargas empreendidas por Salgado entre 1939 e 1945, interpretadas como reveladoras de uma postura subordinada.

This article discusses the relationship established by the Brazilian Integralists – especially their "Leader" Plínio Salgado – with Getúlio Vargas and the Estado Novo, discussing the Integralist support of the Coup of 1937, the banning of activities of the AIB (Brazilian Integralist Action party), the armed uprisings of 1938, and especially, the repeated attempts at rapprochement with Vargas undertaken by Salgado between 1939 and 1945, interpreted as indicating a subordi-nate position.
