Os rios foram locais de disputas, lendas e fonte para a existên
cia e crescimento das sociedades humanas ao longo da história. Desde o uso coordenado
do rio Nilo, aos rios indianos que foram reverenciados pela sua divindade, a impetuos
idade das enchentes do rio Amarelo chinês, as disputas diplomáticas em torno do rio
Congo na África central, do acesso ao empreendimento colonizador dos EUA pelo rio Missis
sippi, das lendas de riqueza e espanto diante do rio Amazonas e da coordenação polít
ica acordada com o uso conjunto das águas do rio Danúbio e Murray. O artigo, em su
ma, pretende analisar a importância dos rios ao longo da história e alertar para a cr
escente responsabilidade no uso de seus recursos.
Rivers were always places of contention, legends and source for
the existence and growth of human societies throughout history. From the coordina
ted use of the Nile River to the Indian rivers revered by their divinity, the impet
uosity of the floods of the Chinese Yellow River, the diplomatic disputes around the Congo
River in central Africa, the access to the European colonizers by the Mississippi River,
the legends of wealth and amazement of the Amazon River and the political coordination ag
reed upon the use of of the Danube and Murray. The article, in short, intends to ana
lyze the importance of rivers throughout history and to alert to the growing responsib
ility in the use of its resources.
