Este artigo pretende evidenciar a singular compreensão filosófica do Padre Vaz de alguns problemas de fronteira entre filosofia e teologia, sobre as relações entre cristianismo e sociedade e cristianismo e utopia, expressa em três Editoriais da revista Síntese nos anos 1980. A compreensão do Padre Vaz dessas questões que marcaram profundamente a discussão acadêmica, filosófica e teológica brasileira, daqueles anos, coincide substancialmente com a compreensão filosófica dessas mesmas questões no ambiente cultural europeu, expressa em dois artigos de Eric Weil, publicados entre 1953 e 1962.
This article aims to highlight Father Vaz’s unique philosophical understanding of some problems at the frontiers of philosophy and theology, concerning the relationship between Christianity and society and Christianity and utopia, expressed in three Editorials of the journal Síntese in the 1980s. His philosophical understanding of those issues, which profoundly marked the Brazilian philosophical and theological academic discussion of the time, substantially coincides with that of the very same issues in the European cultural environment, expressed in two of Eric Weil´s articles, published between 1953 and 1962.
