O romance, considerado um dos gêneros que estilhaçou a sua própria medida, inaugurou uma nova estética de se fazer e também de se pensar a literatura. Partindo-se dessa premissa, o presente artigo trata de tecer percepções acerca do romance enquanto gênero literário que rompeu com determinadas tradições e, deste modo, averiguar o modo como o tema do erotismo se encontra configurado na obra Madame Bovary (1857), de Gustave Flaubert. Posto isto, apoia-se tanto nos estudos de Ian Watt (1990) e Mikhail Bakhtin (2002), para abordar alguns elementos que configuram o gênero romanesco, como nos de Georges Bataille (2017) e Mario Vargas Llosa (1979), a fim de se compreender como o erótico e o desejo pela volúpia dos sentidos se manifestam na configuração da personagem Emma Bovary.

The novel, considered one of the genres that shattered its own measure, inaugurated a new aesthetic of making itself and also of thinking literature. Based on this premise, the present article tries to weave perceptions about the novel as a literary genre that broke with certain traditions and, thus, to investigate the way in which the theme of eroticism is configured in the work Madame Bovary (1857), by Gustave Flaubert. This is supported by studies by Ian Watt (1990) and Mikhail Bakhtin (2002), in order to address some of the elements that make up the Romanesque genre, such as Georges Bataille (2017) and Mario Vargas Llosa (1979). of understanding how the erotic and the desire for the voluptuousness of the senses are manifested in the configuration of the character Emma Bovary.
