O objetivo desse trabalho foi avaliar o parasitismo gastrointestinal de 116 gatos domiciliados e
relacionar com o sinal clÃnico diarreia. As amostras fecais foram processadas pelo método de exame direto e
centrÃfugo flutuação com solução de sulfato de zinco. Das amostras analisadas 56,8% estavam positivas para um
ou mais parasitos, no entanto 68,9% dos gatos apresentavam fezes diarréicas. Nos gatos foram encontrados ovos
de helmintos como Toxocara sp., Ancylostoma sp., Spirometra sp. e Dypilidium sp., e cistos e oocisto de
protozoários como Giardia sp. Cystoisospora sp., Toxoplasma sp., Entamoeba sp. e Cryptosporidium sp. A
diarréia foi observada principalmente em animais infectados por protozoários. Infecção elevadas pelos gêneros
Giardia, Toxoplasma e Cystoisospora acarretaram diarreia severa.
The aim of this study was to assess gastrointestinal parasitism of 116 cats domiciled and relate to
the clinical sign diarrhea. The fecal samples were processed by the method of direct examination and centrifugal
flotation with zinc sulphate solution. Of the samples analyzed, 56.8% were positive for one or more parasites,
however 68.9% of cats had diarrheal stools. In cats were found helminth eggs and Toxocara sp. Ancylostoma sp.
Spirometra sp. and Dypilidium sp., and cysts and oocysts of protozoa such as Giardia sp. Cystoisospora sp.,
Toxoplasma sp., Entamoeba sp. and Cryptosporidium sp. Diarrhoea was observed mostly in animals infected
with protozoa. Infection by high genera Giardia, Toxoplasma and Cystoisospora led to severe diarrhea.
