O artigo busca caracterizar e analisar o desenvolvimento do pentecostalismo entendendo-o como um fenômeno cultural amplo, que afeta e carimba as religiões cristãs. Também chama a atenção para o fato que a religiosidade hoje predominante nas cidades brasileiras é de natureza pentecostal, espalhada em distintas denominações e tradições. Para reconstruir seu desenvolvimento seleciona alguns temas que demarcam a evolução e direções do pentecostalismo nas últimas três décadas. O intuito é configurar, ainda que parcialmente, os contornos de um fenômeno complexo e dinâmico, apresentando nesta reflexão algumas de suas facetas.
The article characterizes and analyses the development of Pentecostalism understanding it as a broad cultural phenomenon that affects and stamps the Christian religions. It is also interesting to pay attention on the fact that the predominant religiosity in Brazilian cities nowadays is Pentecostal in its origin, and it is spread in different churches and traditions. So, in order to reconstruct its development this article selects some matters that mark the evolution and the directions of Pentecostalism in the last three decades. The intention is to configure even if partially the characteristics of a complex and dynamic phenomenon showing here due to it some of its facets.
