O presente texto expõe reflexões sobre o percurso na investigação da arte da talha na Bahia do século XIX, mais precisamente o movimento de reforma da ornamentação das igrejas baianas e seus resultados estéticos. Nele tecemos considerações sobre as bases teóricas que fundamentaram os estudos, a metodologia adotada e as diretrizes surgidas do embate com o objeto e das questões por ele sugeridas

This paper presents reflections on the research journey of the art of woodcarving in Bahia in the nineteenth century, more precisely the reform movement of the ornamentation of Bahian churches and their esthetic results. In it, we weave considerations about the theoretical bases which provide the grounds for the study, the methodology and guidelines arising from the collision with the object and the issues which have arisen.
