O câncer de próstata (CaP) é uma doença altamente prevalente, sendo a segunda neoplasia que mais acomete homens em todo mundo, tendo uma alta significância no quadro de morbimortalidade da população masculina. O presente trabalho trata de estudo retrospectivo, do tipo quantitativo, descritivo e quanto aos procedimentos se classifica como pesquisa de levantamento. A pesquisa foi realizada na Unidade de Alta Complexidade em Oncologia (UNACON) de Teixeira de Freitas, BA. Após análise, foi visto que 37,42% dos pacientes foram diagnosticados com o tumor em estadiamento III, concluindo que há uma dificuldade em detectar o CaP precocemente, o que diminui as chances de cura. Com esses resultados, espera-se, enfim, mobilizar e conscientizar os profissionais de saúde sobre seu papel humano e técnico-científico para cuidado efetivo tanto na atenção primária, quanto no tratamento de pacientes acometidos de carcinoma prostático, bem como estímulo nas investigações que enfatizem essa patologia. Prostate cancer (CaP) is a highly prevalent disease, being the second neoplasm that most affects men worldwide, having a high significance in the morbidity and mortality of the male population. The present work deals with a retrospective study, of the quantitative and descriptive type, and regarding the procedures, it is classified as a survey research. The research was carried out at the High Complexity in Oncology Unit (UNACON) of Teixeira de Freitas-BA. After analysis, since 37.42% of the patients were diagnosed with the tumor in stage III, it was concluded that there is a difficulty in detecting the CaP early, which decreases the chances of cure. With these results, it is expected, finally, to mobilize and raise awareness among health professionals about their human and technical-scientific role for effective care both in primary care and in the treatment of patients with prostatic carcinoma, as well as an encouragement in investigations that emphasize this pathology.
