In the urban-environmental context of a city, green areas are important because of a series of factors, such as the regulation of the urban climate that directly influences the thermal comfort of individuals that are used for playfulness, sporting and recreational purposes among others. So, the present study proposes to investigate the green areas for leisure and recreation (squares) of two neighborhoods located in different planes in the configuration of the urban space of Belém / PA, the first one located in the Historic Center, and the second located in a peripheral area and very precarious from the socioeconomic point of view, the neighborhood Terra Firme. Therefore, from the surveys in loco, it was sought: to identify the green areas - only the squares - in the respective neighborhoods; to analyze in a comparative way if the distribution of green areas in the mentioned districts meeting the norms established in the municipal plans of urban development; and to relate the distribution of green areas to the quality of life of the people who use them. Thus, through the applied methodology, it was obtained in the results that, there is a relevant discrepancy of green areas between the two districts, being the Cidade Velha neighborhood, due to its more central and privileged character in what refers to public policy, with greater distribution of green areas, that is, the squares, compared to the Terra Firme neighborhood. In this sense, one can notice the engagement that the first neighborhood has within the urban planning in relation to the second, corroborating for differences in the quality of life of the population of the two neighborhoods.
