A POLARIZAÇÃO DO ORIENTE‐OCIDENTE NO FOTOJORNALISMO PÓS‐11 DE SETEMBRO

Os impactos políticos, econômicos e sociais, decorrentes dos atentados de 11 de setembro de 2001, não deixaram na sombra mudanças de sentido que se processam na ordem da cultura e da mídia. Em meio às transformações de um universo cultural circunscrito midiaticamente, é possível detectar um procedimento que se deu instantaneamente após os atos terroristas e que se perpetua no tempo, diga‐se: a redefinição do islã como imagem invertida do Ocidente. A tentativa de constituição de uma nova alteridade resulta em imagens que comportam o status de textos da cultura e são assim distribuídas por jornais, revistas, TV e internet. Este trabalho tem como objetivo analisar estes mecanismos semióticos no âmbito do fotojornalismo da Folha de S. Paulo. O mecanismo de polarização, descrito por Ivan Bystrina, constitui‐se como eixo de reflexão deste trabalho. Também são exploradas a noção de Orientalismo, de Said, e estereótipo, de Bhabha.

The political, social and economical impacts arising from the attacks of September 11, 2001, have not left in the shade the semiotic changes are processed in the order of culture and media.In the midst of a cultural transformation framed by the media, it is possible to detect a procedure that took place immediately after the terrorist acts and that is perpetuated in time, let us say: the redefinition of Islam as an inverted image of the West. The attempt to set up a new otherness leads to images that contain the status ofcultural texts and are well distributed by newspapers,magazines, TV and internet. This paper aims to analyze these semiotic mechanisms within photojournalism Folha de S. Paulo. The mechanism of polarization, described by Ivan Bystrina constitutes itself as the axis of study of this work. We also explore the notion of Orientalism, developed by Edward Said, and stereotype, by Homi Bhabha.
