POLIDEZ LINGUÍSTICA EM AMBIENTE VIRTUAL: ANÁLISE DO GÊNERO RECADO EM SITES DE RELACIONAMENTO

Este artigo procura averiguar como se dão os processos de elaboração de face a
partir de procedimentos de polidez no gênero recado no site de relacionamento Orkut. Tem o
objetivo de mostrar como o gênero recado, entre pessoas muito próximas, embora apresente
uma linguagem bem direta e íntima, em ambientes sociais da Internet, enquadra-se em um
contínuo que oscila da formalidade à informalidade. Considerando que os sites de
relacionamento na internet, em geral, possibilitam a publicidade desses recados, procuramos
avaliar como, dependendo do grau de proximidade entre os interactantes, constrói-se ou não
uma face por meio de procedimentos de polidez. Partimos da hipótese de que as estratégias
linguísticas usadas nos recados desses sites de relacionamento são no sentido de construção de
imagem de reconhecimento por parte de quem recebe o recado e daqueles que o leem. Esta
análise se ancorará nos estudos de Goffman, que empreende um trabalho sobre face e defende
que um indivíduo agirá de maneira calculada para dar aos outros o tipo de impressão que irá
levá-los a uma resposta específica que lhe interessa obter; e se apoiará também na teoria da
construção de face - face positiva/face negativa - desenvolvida por Brown e Levinson.

Resumo Inglês:

This article tries to examine how occur the face-making processes from politeness
procedures in the gender scrap on the social networking site Orkut. It aims to show how the
gender scrap amongst very close people, although it presents a very direct and intimate
language, in social environments of the Internet fits into a continuum that ranges from
formality to informality. Considering that social networking sites on the Internet in general,
allow the advertising of these scraps, we assess how it is possible to build up a face or not by
the politeness procedures, depending on the degree of closeness between interactants. Our
hypothesis is that the language strategies used in the scraps of these social networking sites
are in order to build image recognition by the person who receives the message and those who
read. This analysis will be anchored in Goffman studies, that undertakes work on a face and
defends that an individual will act in a calculated manner to give to the others the kind of
impression that will lead them into a specific reply that interests himself; and it will also
support the theory of face construction - positive face / negative face - developed by Brown
and Levinson.
