A saúde tem na ação educativa um dos seus eixos norteadores, dessa forma o pensar e fazer no campo da saúde agrega um papel educativo em uma proposta de educação visando à emancipação do sujeito, seja em seu modo de ver o processo saúde e doença, seja em seu papel como sujeito consciente e atuante na sociedade. Assim sendo, o objetivo deste artigo é refletir acerca do aporte teórico da Educação Popular e suas possíveis contribuições ao campo do Ensino e educação em saúde, em uma perspectiva emancipadora e crítica, tendo como referenciais teóricos Antônio Gramsci e Paulo Freire. A Educação Popular é um sistema de ensino que historicamente marcou a criação de um movimento de profissionais do setor de saúde brasileiro que buscavam ultrapassar os processos autoritários e normatizadores dos serviços de saúde a população. A teoria Gramsciana e a Freireana contribuem para a compreensão do pensar e fazer na Educação Popular em Saúde, trazendo categorias importantes para discussão das práticas educativas nesse campo. A discussão apresentada sinaliza a necessidade de reformulação da formação dos profissionais de saúde, a partir da reflexão do pensar e fazer no campo da saúde visando à transformação social e emancipação do sujeito.

Health has the educational action of its guiding principles, so the thinking and doing in the health field adds an educational role in an educational proposal aimed at emancipation of the subject, whether in his view the health and disease process, either in his role as conscious and active in society subject.This is a paper about the Popular Education’s theoretical basis and the possible contributions to the field of education and health education in the emancipatory and critical perspective, based on the theory of Antonio Gramsci and Paulo Freire. The Popular Education is an educational system that has historically marked the creation of a movement of professionals in the Brazilian health sector seeking to overcome the authoritarian and standard-setting processes of health services and population. Gramsci and Freire theory´s contributes to the understanding of thinking and doing in Popular Education in the field of Health, bringing important categories for discussion of educational practices in this field. It is indicated the need to recast the training of health’s professionals, from the reflection of the thinking and doing in health that aimed the social transformation and the subject’s emancipation.
