O presente trabalho constitui-se em uma pesquisa qualitativa e exploratória que objetivou identificar as práticas dos psicólogos em entidades de acolhimento do tipo “Abrigo Institucional”, avaliar os limites para suas intervenções e analisar os principais desafios a serem enfrentados na prática institucional. Para isso, o método de pesquisa consistiu na aplicação de entrevistas semiestruturadas com duas psicólogas atuantes em abrigos institucionais de municípios da Baixada Fluminense, que foram analisadas sob a ótica da Psicologia Social Comunitária. Observou-se que a prática psi nessas instituições é voltada para o fortalecimento identitário dos indivíduos acolhidos através da promoção de atividades lúdicas, conversas em grupo e individuais. Os principais desafios para a atuação profissional, advêm dos impasses para se estabelecer a intersetorialidade, entre os mecanismos da rede de Assistência Social dos municípios e os limites para sua atuação, residem na dificuldade em ter a especificidade de sua profissão reconhecida por membros do judiciário e da própria equipe em que atuam. Ademais, a ausência de um referencial teórico específico para as práticas dos psicólogos nos serviços de acolhimento institucional impossibilita a padronização do atendimento, conforme preconizado no Sistema Único de Assistência Social. Os resultados obtidos apontam que, mesmo com a ausência de referencial, a atuação dos psicólogos nesse contexto visa a mudança social através da conscientização dos indivíduos acolhidos sobre o lugar que ocupam na sociedade.

This paper consists of a qualitative-exploratory research that aimed to identify the practices of psychologists in the “Institutional Shelter” category, evaluate the limits for their interventions and analyze the main challenges to be faced in institutional practice. For this, the research method consisted of a semi-structured interview with two psychologists working in institutional shelters from the BaixadaFluminense counties, which were analyzed through the Community Psychology views. It was observed that the practices in these institutions are aimed at the strengthening of identity of the sheltered individuals through the promotion of ludic activities and group and individual talk. The main challenges for the professional acting come from the deadlocks regarding the establishment of intersectionality through the network mechanisms of Social Fare in the counties, and the limits for their acting are related to the difficulty in having the specificity of their profession recognized by members of the judiciary and their own working team. Besides, the lack of specific theoretical references in institutional shelter services makes it impossible to standardize the practice, as it is preconized in the Single System of Social Assistance. The obtained results show that, even with the lack of references, the acting of psychologists in this context aims the social change through awareness of sheltered individuals about the place they occupy in society.Keywords:Institutional Sheltering; Social Psychology; Social Welfare.
