A critical parameter in the Gaussian plume diffusion model is the lateral scattering coefficient σ y . In this study, we obtain values for the Lagrangean integral scale of time L and show that these quantities, together with σ V , determine good theoretical values for the σ y . The developed analysis suggests that the form of the Lagrangean autocorrection function in the lower atmosphere is independent of stability and that L may involve within itself the structure of the local Lagrangian turbulence.
