O artigo traz uma análise do álbum produzido pelo fotógrafo Suejiro Yasunaka e publicado em 1938, em comemoração pelo 10º. aniversário da “Fazenda Bastosâ€, SP. Este fotógrafo japonês percorreu a região, a cavalo, portando pesado material fotográfico, registrando o trabalho de dezenas de famÃlias recém chegadas ao Brasil. Com o patrocÃnio dos estabelecimentos comerciais e dos trabalhadores e trabalhadoras locais, produziu e organizou um álbum de 214 páginas, impresso em gráfica. Busca-se detectar o modo como homens e mulheres surgem nas centenas de fotografias para discutir os papéis sociais afirmados à época por mulheres e homens situados em um contexto especÃfico de imigração recente. Tangenciando uma discussão sobre a fotografia como fonte histórica, verifica-se a potencialidade do álbum comemorativo em trazer á luz relações de gênero. Situando os possÃveis objetivos da Sociedade Colonizadora do Brasil, do fotógrafo, das famÃlias e dos comerciantes da colônia, busca-se levar em conta a função social do material.
The article raises an analysis of the album produced by the photographer Suejiro Yasunaka and publicized in 1938, to celebrate the 10th birthday of the “Bastos Farmâ€, at São Paulo state. This japanese photographer traveled all around this region, on horseback, carring a heavy photograph staff, registering the work of many families which had just arrived in Brasil. With the sponsorship of the business and local workers, S. Yasunaka has produced and organized a 214 pages álbum, graphic printed. We try to search the way how men and women appear inside these hundreds of photos intending to discuss the social parts affirmed at these times by women and men inside a specific context wich is the recent imigration. Walking around a discussion about the photograph as historic document, we can verify a potential of this celebration álbum to bring gendered relationships. Locating possible aims from the Brazilian Colonization Society, from the photographer, from the families and from the colony business men, we try to consider the social function of the photograph material produced.
