In a summer expedition in 1979, by the Paleovertebrates Sector of the Institute of Geosciences of UFRGS, the remains of pareiassaurus reptiles were collected in the Rio do Rasto Formation, in the Southwest of Rio Grande do Sul. Fossils were collected in 2 outcrops in BR 153 ( Highway Bagé / Aceguá). In an outcropping we found a skull, a scapula-coracoid joint, a number and a pelvis later classified as belonging to a young form. In the 2nd outcropping, an axial skeleton was collected, associated with the pelvis and part of the right enterior and posterior limbs
